Brief on Volunteers Section

The Volunteers Affairs Section aims to attract volunteers from all over the United Arab Emirates, and to  educate them about the volunteer work culture. It also provides volunteering opportunities in Dubai, and connects potential volunteers with activities, programs and events of the government/private sector and the public benefit associations in Dubai. CDA stands apart when it comes to to services related to volunteering. The Authority is considered the first government body in the country to provide voluntary services as a government service, while the Volunteers Affairs Section is considered the first section in any governmental body all over the Emirates, specialized in volunteering

Objectives
• To spread the culture of volunteering and to raise awareness about the importance of volunteer work.

• To rehabilitate, train and develop volunteers jointly with government and private corporations and  authorities.
 

Volunteers Affairs Section Systems

Registration system:
A detailed database with all information related to the volunteers with which volunteers can be filtered, classified, communicated with, followed up with and informed about the events.

Opportunity System:
It is a system that seeks provision of permanent opportunities for volunteering through coordination with different governmental authorities, departments and public benefit associations in Dubai.

Hours System:
A system to count the hours of volunteer work performed per person, where the number of hours done by a volunteer in each event is registered in order to reserve their rights and to appreciate their work. The system also helps in knowing the total number of volunteer work hours done in Dubai which will reflect the value of used financial and human resources on Dubai emirate level.

Training and Development System:
A system that helps in promoting the proper understanding of the concept of volunteering where new volunteers, schools, universities and corporations are given awareness sessions about volunteer work culture.

Community Development Authority Volunteers’ Participations

Volunteers of the Community Development Authority participated in many programs, events and activities in different fields and they gave a great example for sacrifice, giving and dedication for the sake of serving the community. The events included

 

Al Leisaili Event 2011

The Community Development Authority inaugurated Al Leisaili event in March 2011 which aimed at recognizing the needs of the people in that area and introducing the social services offered by the Authority to Al Leisaili community, specifically to the Emirati population there. Volunteers from Al Leisaili area youth had an effective role in making this event succeed in terms of organization and coordination.

The Employment Fair 2011

The volunteers participated in the booth of the Community Development Authority in the Employment Fair, where they welcomed the visitors and explained what “Al Kayt” program for hiring people with disabilities is.

Dubai Walks

Volunteers from the Community Development Authority participated in the organization of the event “Dubai Walks” which is organized by Dubai Sports Council in Souk Al Bahr area behind The Dubai Mall. The number of volunteers reached 130; they organized the participants whose number reached around 10000.

Think about Autism, Think about Giving

The Land Department in Dubai organized a charitable culinary  activity under the event “Think about Autism, Think about Giving” and gave all generated profit to Dubai Autism Center. The volunteers raised funds by  selling food to the employees of the department, to visitors and to customers.

Donations Campaign Emirates NBD

The Volunteers Affairs Section coordinated with Emirates NBD a campaign to collect used clothes, books and electronic devices from employees and give them to the charity association “Dar Al Berr”. Volunteers from the bank employees collected, listed and stored the stuff.

Global Environment Day

Dubai Customs organized a campaign to clean the sea in Al Mamzar area on “Global Environment Day” (5th of June every year). The volunteers participated in cleaning the seabed of the waste, by diving.

Child Rights Conference

The Human Rights Sector in The Community Development Authority organized “Child Rights Conference” under the slogan “The Right to Self Expression” in Jumeirah. The participating volunteers were to receive and orient the guests, register their names, lead the VIP’s to their appointed places. The volunteers were also present during the discussions and in the end they collected the evaluation forms from the participants after they were filled.

Symposium on the Rights of Working Women

The volunteers contributed to the coordination of the symposium on the Rights of Working Women organized by CDA’s Human Rights Sector. The volunteers received and oriented guests, registered their names, lead the VIP’s to their appointed places. The volunteers were also present during the discussions and in the end they collected the evaluation forms from the participants after they were filled.

The Little Merchant Competition 2010

The volunteers participated in the Little Merchant Competition organized by Mohamed Bin Rashid Foundation for small and medium sized projects in Dubai Mall from 31st of March to 4th of April 2010. The volunteers participated in the organization and coordination of the event through communicating with the public and the participants to answer any queries during the competition, supervising the participants in their booths, and preparing the certificates for the participants.

Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities Conference

Volunteers from the Community Development Authority employees participated in the rehabilitation of people with disabilities conference which lasted from 15th to 17th of March 2010. The volunteers were to welcome guests, enter data, and provide visitors with information about the Social Care Sector services.

The Family Event

The volunteers participated in the activities of the Family event in Al Khawanij area which lasted for two months, they also participated in coordinating and organizing these events: Al Tumina, Al Nothor, Lailam, Caring Card, Think with us, Weddings in the Past and in the Present, Our kids are Precious, a number of awareness lectures and workshops. The volunteers were also required to communicate with the public and provide visitors with general information about the Authority’s services, assist in organizing the events and visitors in the place of the event.

My Morals are my … Campaign

The volunteers from the Volunteers Affairs Section participated in the organization and preparation of the campaign “My morals are my…” in the school of Al Zuhra in Hatta which extended from 5thNovember 2009 to 25th March 2010. One of the most important targets of the campaign was enjoying good morals and not paying attention to the minor and trivial issues. The volunteers prepared and coordinated the event and communicated with the school administration and the official authorities for all the lectures and workshops directed to the students and teachers under the campaign. The volunteers also participated in collecting charity money for the Palestinians and  participated in an art exhibition.

 

Distributing Cards on the Needy Families

The volunteers in Hatta distributed 90 monthly aid cards on the needy families during two days in addition to submitting 5 files for needy families to the Community Development Authority. This initiative positively affected the volunteers because of the trust bestowed on them by the Authority and because of entrusting them with cards distribution which enclosed big sums of money.

  Planting Day in Hatta

The volunteers participated in the planting day which aims at cultivating the area and teaching female students the importance of cultivation and teaching them how to plant. The volunteers divided themselves among the groups of teachers and students inside and outside the school to plant fruit- trees such as olive, fig, mango and others.

Gulf Disabled Week

Hatta volunteers participated in preparing different activities for students with disabilities from the center and contributed to the inclusion of children with disabilities with other children. The volunteers also participated in organizing events, competitions and communicating with children from the Center. They povided visitors with general information about the Authority’s services, assist in organizing the events and visitors in the place of the event.

The 38th National Day Event in The JBR Walk, Jumeirah

The volunteers participated in organizing different activities in the JBR Walk and coordinated different activities and participating teams in celebrations like the heritage tent where there was traditional food- Henna- traditional bands “Emirates- Razif, Youlla, Ayalla”- international bands “Spanish, Italian, Lebanese, Sudanese”, Freij “the four characters”, clowns, musicians. The volunteers also organized the competitions and distributed awards.

The National Day March in Hatta

Hatta volunteers organized the National Day March in which a lot of Hatta people participated. The March promoted the feeling of belonging and patriotism of the volunteers and the participants. The volunteers participated in organizing the march and coordinating with the people of Hatta and the official authorities for their participation in the march.

Clean Hands Campaign

This campaign was launched in Hatta against Swin Flueand it was the idea of one of the volunteers in Hatta where the volunteers there noticed a deficiency in sterilizers in the area containing schools. Therefore, moved by the high spirit of voluntary work, contacts were made with the Community Development Authority- Volunteers Affairs Section for coordinating the campaign. The volunteers visited schools and distributed sterilizers on students and guided them to the importance of personal cleanliness and hygiene to reduce chances of catching the virus.

Hatta Ramadan Tent

The volunteers participated in the coordination for Hatta’s First Ramadan event in Al Hesn Hotel in Hatta organized by the Community Development Authority. The volunteers task was to coordinate the activities included in the event; entertainment and educational activities, Quraan memorization, workshops, courses and lectures as well as entertainment and playing section.

 

Training Courses and Lectures

The Volunteers Affairs Section seeks to spread and promote the culture of volunteer work through holding lectures that target different society sectors and which promote the concept of volunteer work, its forms and the positive impact it has on the individual and the society. The lectures targeted the governmental and private sectors, public benefit associations, schools and universities students. The lectures were held in the following places:

• Higher Technology Colleges for women- Dubai
• Al Leisaili School for Girls
• Al Watan Al Arabi School for Girls
• Emirates NBD
• Rashid Summer Camp

 
The Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 recognizes that “in order for economic success to be sustained, it is crucial that the social development sector infrastructure be developed.”
 

 

The CDA’s strategic plan is based upon comprehensive research and analysis 
of the most important social issues facing Dubai.
