CDA REVEALS THE RESULTS OF THE THIRD SOCIAL SURVEY

The Community Development Authority in Dubai (CDA), reviled today the results of the social survey (2013-2014) conducted in cooperation with Dubai Statistics Centre, where the field part of the study was conducted in 2013 between Oct 5th and Dec 19th .
The study has covered 3,796 families of which 1,328 were Emirati households, 1,504 non-Emarati households, 464 collective families and 500 individuals from labour camps. The total number of the covered individuals was 15,077. The sample that was selected randomly on multi-phases included 56 per cent males and 44 per cent.
The study has shown that the feeling of protection and safety has increased from 92.80% in 2011 to be 96% in the recent survey among all Dubai residents. The average of happiness during the year prior to the survey reached 8:08 out of 10, compared to 7.9 the year 2011.
In the results related to the social needs and services, the study findings revealed that 37% of Emiratis with disabilities are completely independent and do not need any special help, while 35% need some help, and 28% are dependent and need a complete help.
The total number of people with disabilities in Dubai is 2.3% of the total number of Dubai Emirati residents, out of them 28% are motor impairment, 16% chronic diseases, 14% mental retardation and 9% speech disabilities. While seeing disabilities is about 8%, hearing disabilities 6%, physiological/mental illness 4% and hand using 2%.
On the human rights side, 77.5% of the total studied population said that they feel able to obtain their rights through legal channels; the highest was among Emirati families with 94%, followed by non-Emirati families with 84.4%, then comes the collective families with 78.2% and finally labour camps 66.4%.
Additionally, 67% of the study population working in Dubai feel that they are safe from stringent work practices; with the highest percentage among Emiratis 83.1%, followed by non-Emiratis 75.5%, then collective families 71.4% and finally labour camps 56.9%.
The study showed that around 94.9% of non-Emiratis agree that they practice their religion freely in Dubai, likewise 92.5% of them agree that human rights are preserved. Around 92.3% of non-Emiratis agree that everyone is treated equally by policemen, around 89.5% in judicial entities, 88.5% in health facilities, and around 87.3% in government entities in general.
His Excellency Kahled Al Kamda, Director General – CDA said that the main objective of the social survey that is the first of its kind in the region is to measure the key performance indicators both on CDA and social sector levels and to discover any possible social issues in Dubai. “The survey measures not only sectors related to us in CDA but the entire social services that include healthcare, education, security and other areas. We share the results with the concerned department which help in the continual improvement of all the services”, Al Kamda said.
“The study has measured the awareness level of the community members towards certain social issues as well as the awareness level of community members towards CDA and its services. We have now better understanding to launch new services and how to improve the existing ones”. He added.
